“SoloDuo” – Bach meets Eggert
Lukas Dreyer – Cello & Jan Ickert – Cello

The two cello soloists from Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main connected during their studies with Daniel Graf, they developed a close acquaintance, and later a friendship. Yet this afternoon, they are appearing together on stage for the first time as part of the WGT Music Chamber. They explore Johann Sebastian Bach's famous C major Suite in a version for two solo cellos specially arranged for this performance. On their sonic journey, they encounter true rarities, both in arrangements and in their original versions: mostly works that were inspired by Bach – or inspired him himself. Musically, they lead us from Jean-Baptiste Barrière to Gabriel Fauré and Camille Saint-Saëns to Moritz Eggert, who wrote the work "Europa" for 1 to 11 voices as a commission for "Cello for Europe" for the 2024 European elections. In a version specially arranged for two cellos, this work now has its stage premiere at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen.

"Ich ging mit Lust durch einen grünen Wald"
Jean-Baptist Mouret – bass-baritone, accordion & Puria Kaini – baroque violin

Together with Iranian violinist Puria Kaini, French bass-baritone and accordionist Jean-Baptiste Mouret presents an unusual recital in duo format. "I Walked with Joy Through a Green Forest" is a homage to folk singing, refined by great composers such as Benjamin Britten, Gustav Mahler, and Franz Schubert. Thanks to this unique ensemble, the art of Liedgesang can be experienced anew – free and communicative, narrative and deeply moving.

Matinee – Young WGT Music Chamber
Young artists from Central Germany traditionally perform music for the Treffen guests as part of a matinee. For many of them, the performance in the "Young Chamber" is a special experience and often a first step on the path to an international artistic career. It's always exciting to see which of these young talents will later appear again on the stages of the Wave-Gotik-Treffen.
This year's focus is on chamber music and solo works for flute and bassoon. The musical emphasis is on Romantic and Impressionist compositions that impressively showcase the expressive power of these two instruments. Lukas Dreyer will moderate the event.
