The successful musical "Evita" by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, first released as an album in 1976 and premiered in London two years later, inspires with its artistic and emotional portrayal of the biography, the spectacular rise and fall of María Eva Duarte de Perón (1919-1952), the "spiritual leader" of Argentina: how the fighter from a small Argentinian village made it to the government palace, the Casa Rosada, and campaigned for workers' and women's rights.

At the centre of the story is Hermann, a young officer who wants to climb the social ladder and become one of the rich and powerful in society. He is obsessed with a secret gambling technique. His obsession is intensified when he falls in love with Lisa, the granddaughter of an old countess. In order to get his hands on some money, he tries to outwit the countess, nicknamed the "Queen of Spades", and to coax the secret of the mysterious gambling technique out of her. If he succeeds, Hermann can expect glittering riches, infinite power and the love of his life: Lisa. While Hermann puts everything on the line, he gets caught up in a maelstrom of passion, jealousy and madness.

Tchaikovsky's masterful music lends the plot a deep emotional intensity and captures the tragedy and drama of the characters in a breathtaking way. With stormy opening sounds and captivating melodies, "Queen of Spades" offers a haunting portrayal of love, obsession and fate.

In the venerable Great Hall of the Gewandhaus, baroque opulence meets goosebumps - with George Frideric Handel's concertos for organ and orchestra, performed by the Merseburg Court Music under Gewandhaus organist Michael Schönheit. A powerful sounding event between sublimity and ecstasy for all those who love the dark but do not shy away from the divine.

Undines, female water creatures, can only attain an immortal soul by marrying an earthly man. But what price must be paid for this? What constitutes a soul? The story of a love of life and death begins in a secluded fishing hut belonging to an old couple and their foster daughter Undine. When Knight Hugo finds refuge from a storm in this hut, he and Undine fall in love and get married. Even before they are to return to the town together, Undine whispers a warning to her newlywed: "O hold fast to your faith and remain true to your oath that I am your happiness, your everything!" For if Undine's love is betrayed, so the old tales say, she must kill the unfaithful man and return to the water from which she once came.

"House of Dragon & Game of Thrones in Concert"

On Pentecost Sunday, dragons will once again be up to mischief in the impressive halls of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations when cult trombonist Hubertus Schmidt and Ivo Nitschke bring the melodies of "Game of Thrones" composer Ramin Djawadi to life.
Grandiose organ sounds, hypnotic drums and resounding trombone sounds create an impressive listening experience, which reaches its unique volume in the halls of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations. Grand emotional moments alternate with powerful battle music. You as the audience should also be interactively involved when we all dance next to the graves of our ancestors.

"The Moon Princess"

"The Story of the Bamboo Collector or Princess Kaguya" is the oldest fairytale-like romantic tale in Japan and dates back to the year 900. During his work, a childless bamboo collector discovers a foundling whom he and his wife raise as their own child. The radiantly beautiful child has been sent to earth as a gift from the moon, and even though her beauty attracts powerful men as suitors for her bride, Kaguya is the princess of the moon and must return there.

For "The Moon Princess", Martin Chaix explores the richness of Japanese legend and tells a story of family and home, of belonging and obligation in a challenging world.
